Blue Friar 2019
While I don’t normally like to talk about myself, I must share an extraordinary act of kindness which took place on Friday, February 22 at Masonic Week in Crystal City, VA.
I was elected to become the Blue Friar for 2019!
Now, for those of you who’ve never heard of this, the Society of Blue Friars was established in 1982 by J.Raymond Shute (who was responsible from bringing a number of Masonic Orders across from Europe to the United States) as a means to recognize Masonic scholars who had been published as authors. Only one is selected a year, and the field is international. Blue Friars have been selected from the United States, France, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Canada and Israel. As an Englishman I am proud to share the illustrious title with such British luminaries as Arthur Edward Waite (1939), Fred Lomax Pick (1955), Harry Carr (1963), Frederick H. Smythe (1970), John M. Hamill (1988) and Yasha Beresiner (2009), to name a few.
My Inaugural Speech was titled “Did Saint-Martin Influence the Rectified Rite?” and will appear in Heredom, the scholarly publication of the Southern Masonic Jurisdiction of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, later this year.

I am still amazed that I am in the company of so many of the greatest Masonic scholars of my time. Thank you for the great honor!
Once again, congratulations. I can’t wait to read your presentation.
